Dumeco Retail:
"Despite careful testing, its always a nerve-racking moment"

After months of preparation, implementation and testing the switch is turned on: Dumeco Retail goes live with Microsoft Dynamics® NAV. The most important changes concern the improvement in the organisation of the administrative and production processes. This organisation is the heart of Dumeco Retail. After all, the core business is purchasing and selling meat products to the hundreds of butchers and supermarkets who are all Dumeco customers. Good IT systems are vitally important. And that’s why the change over to a new IT system is always a nerve-racking experience, despite all the care that has gone into the preparation.

Perfect IT match
Dumeco has been running Dynamics NAV for a few weeks now. The IT project was carried out by Schouw Informatisering in the Netherlands. As Microsoft Gold Certified Business Solutions Partner, Schouw is specialised in the food sector. "Because of their extensive knowledge and experience in the food sector Schouw is the right partner for the automation of our processes", Richard Lagerwey of Dumeco Retail explains. Dumeco uses Dynamics NAV combined with SI Foodware, the standard branchespecific software developed by Schouw. This software is fully tailored to the situation at Dumeco and fits seamlessly into Dynamics NAV. This has created the perfect IT match in the new Delicontrol system. Dumeco Retail: "Schouw has done what they promised; everything has been achieved within the agreed time and budget".

Order entry
"The purchasing and sales processes form a complex network", Richard Lagerwey explains. "Just imagine: we deliver to hundreds of shops each day, sometimes we visit the same shop more than once, we stock their shelves with hundreds of different products, each with its own expiry date". To manage this process properly, Dumeco now uses a more intelligent order entry procedure and data is exchanged with the shops using EDI. Within the foreseeable future Dumeco customers will be able to enter their orders via Internet directly into the new Delicontrol system. Delicontrol monitors the input deadlines, the order due dates and the shelf life of the inventory and it also makes the daily delivery plan. The new Delicontrol system is an essential part of the Dumeco infrastructure for the proper exchange of information throughout the whole meat chain.

Dumeco
Dumeco Retail is part of Dumeco, an international organisation, active in the food sector and specialised in processing both pork and beef. Dumeco has a special position in the meat sector. Not just because it is one of the largest organisations within the European meat sector, but in particular because Dumeco works from a unique quality chain strategy. Dumeco has a role to play in each link of the production chain. Dumeco main activities are: cattle breeding, supply, fresh meat production and processing, cooked meat products and retail distribution. Dumeco employs more than 5,000 people, spread over five functional groups with a total of 19 locations at home and abroad. Dumeco Retail uses the Business Intelligence tool Cognos to create reports for the parent company Dumeco. Using Cognos, Dumeco Retail is able to raise the provision of management information to a higher level. All relevant business information can be analysed from various angles. The implementation of Cognos, interfaced with Dynamics NAV, was also carried out by Schouw Informatisering.
