More than 15.000 kilograms?
Since January the first 2008, companies who spend more than 15.000 kilos per year, need to administer their packaging usage by themselves. The first owner of the product in the Netherlands is responsible for the compliance of the packaging law. The goal of the law is to stimulate companies to use less or environmental friendly packaging materials. This can be achieved by re-using packaging material or make more useful use of the materials.
Types of packaging
All possible packaging materials and packaging types are influenced by the packaging law. The weight per type of material has to be registered by the administration department. In charging the taxes, a difference will be made between primary, secondary and tertiary packaging. The primary packaging is the package in which the product is directly packaged (for example a flacon or tin). The secondary packaging is the packaging which is wrapped around the primary packaging (for example a box). Especially with transport, a tertiary packaging is used.
