Commodity traders
A commodity trader is a company that is active in international trade without goods being physically in their own warehouse. This type of companies often looks up consignments on the worldwide commodity markets and tries to match them with a distribution channel. The other way around, it can be that they receive a request from a distribution channel that is looking for a specific consignment of products or raw materials. The most important issue for this type of companies is that they are able to match their purchases and sales positions with each other continuously. Thereby, quantities, prices (margins) and supply times are the most important triggers. Besides margins between the purchase and sales prices of the products, additional costs such as transport, insurances, duties and currency hedging are important components that are influencing the result. A thorough and actual knowledge of the supply and demand market is of eminent importance. Distribution of goods often takes place in complete pallets of the same products.
